What’s the cast of The Hobbit up to now?

Over the past couple of years, fans had the pleasure of experiencing the thrill and anticipation of waiting for a new installment of The Hobbit trilogy.

Sadly, last year came the end of that trilogy, and along with it, the end of the stories of Middle Earth (as far as we know. Unless they make a movie adaptation of the Silmarillion *wink*wink*). At least we’ll still have the DVD Extended Edition to look forward to at the end of the year.

However, despite it all being more or less over, a good thing about the fandom is we still support the actors. After all, they’re the ones who gave visible life to the characters we’ve all come to love and mourn.

With that, let’s see what our favorite hobbit, dwarves, elves, wizard and bowman are doing post Middle Earth.

The One Last Party

So, what am I currently missing out on today?

Oh, nothing, it’s only the undoubtedly incredible One Last Party.

What’s that you ask?

Basically, The One Last Party is a party (duh) held on February 21 (today for most, yesterday for me) in Hollywood and it’s a celebration of all six of Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth films.

This is practically every Tolkien fan’s dream party. It’s obviously Middle Earth themed and the attire is formal but guests can come in cosplay (that’s right, elf ears, long wigs, dwarven clothes and many others are welcome!). You can probably come as Gollum for all they care!

It’s hosted by TheOneRing.net and apparently, they have been hosting parties like this since 2001. Continue reading The One Last Party

Seb Lester’s Lord of the Rings

A friend from high school shared a video on Facebook which shows Seb Lester “doodling” the Star Wars logo / title. It wasn’t much of a doodle, I think— it was more of amazing lettering using the Star Wars font.

Since I was always fascinated with lettering and calligraphy, I watched the video. Below in the caption, the artist mentioned that he had also done Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones. Naturally, I became more interested in the LOTR one. Duh.

It’s quick and has no music, but it’s just amazing how easy he makes it look. Enjoy!

How Tolkien found me

Over a decade ago, when I was a little girl, my father dragged me to every Lord of the Rings movie that came out. The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King— I’ve seen them all. I’ve also hated them all. In fact, I have never been so disinterested in my life.

The trilogy came out more or less at the same time as Harry Potter, so naturally, witches and wizards, potions and spells, magic and magic schools won over 11 year old me instead of hobbits with large hairy feet, dwarves, goblins, nazguls, and orcs.

And so as the trilogy came to an end, I was thankful. I think I even sighed in relief (I don’t really remember but it’s very possible).

“Ah! No more movies next year! It’s over!”

Little did I know, Tolkien has a way of worming back into peoples’ lives.
